Drawing Class First Day! Slideshow?

Andrew Loomis
Doing this kind of illustration requires the full ranges of skills and abilities. It doesn't come without years of hard work. (Andrew Loomis

)Is the artist that draws this type of illustration capable of drawing at a higher level as well?
Technically speaking these are both drawings.

This structure has been accomplished through the use of basic shapes and drawing through.Notice the construction lines in this ruff drawing of Ariel.

Comics artist/ designer Chris Ware

I wanted to give you guys a taste of some other options for storytelling art. Chris ware stretches the maning of comics art with his heavily design oriented art style. Read through these. The Designers on in class might want to take a close look.

Hey everyone,

I've been looking over the pages and I've noticed a few things everyone or most everyone need to address

1. Drawing. The quality of drawing and lack of reference is coming clear. Please reassess, you all have much stronger skills in class.
2. Balance of black and white in the panels.
3. Line weight and line work. Control your lines, only use lines if they mean something.

These are all issues we've spoken about inclass. This week we will look more closely and consider it a WIP critique.

Keep working, and make a good show for class this week.

New project due 10/28

Next comes Project : horror movie three pager

Create a three-page comic penciled in ink on 10 x 15" Bristol board.
At least six panels on every page preferably more.
Take a hard movie scene from a movie of your choice and re-create the scene in your own visual language using suggestions from the original adding your own flair.

Your page sequence need to include the following visual shots;  obstructed view image,  Birdseye view, worms Eye view, space and a silhouette. Try out working with zooming in for detail zooming out for establishing shots.
